In memory of Johnny Boo

I'm very sorry to post that Johnny Boo was put to sleep this morning. His Mom did the best she could for him, but something was terribly wrong.

Although none of the tests showed anything, he seemed to be suffering. He was ill a lot and the other cats avoided him. After struggling for months to get him to put on even a little weight and stop his constant bouts of diarrhea, it was decided that his good days were too few to continue to put him through it.

Don't be too sad. He still had a loving and warm home for a few months where he had good care and was safe and peaceful. That is MUCH more than I can say for what his life was like outside.

Something happened before we got to him. Perhaps poison that damaged something (Please people, NEVER use rat poison! It kills more owls, hawks and cats than it does mice and rats).

If there's a lesson in this (and God, I hope there is for someone somewhere) let it be that neutering is the loving thing to do when shelters are so jammed full that good animals are put down by the thousands each year.

If you would like to send a donation to the only shelter that would help me wth this kitty, here is their website with address:

If you would like to do something with a national organization that does amazing work with animals, consider this one were you can donate online:

or support the local rescue group in your area.

Thank you for your support and caring.

  1. Oh, NO. We are so sorry.

We just now saw that Johnny went to The Bridge.

  2. The Lee County Clowder let The Cat Blogosphere know about Johnny aka Boo.
My heart is just breaking, all over again.
A few weeks ago I took in a tuxie stray who wasn't in good shape at all.
I was not prepared for the outcome, he had to be put to sleep, he had FIV, FIP, Aids, digestive abnormalities... just an unbelievable amount of illness against him. I only had him indoors for a few days, but feel completely in love with him.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. You know how attached you can get in very little time.
I wish your Boo could have made it.
Here is a link to the last post about my 007, so named because he would have been our 7th kitty; all are strays taken in. If you look back at our September posts, you can read about the few days we spent together.
KC posted a memorial for Johnny/Boo on today's Cat Blogosphere.
    Sending you purrs and purrayers...

  3. We didn't know Johnny ~ but we are very sad his life ended so soon. It's terrible to think he may have been poisoned BUT a relief to know his last days were surrounded by love and caring and comfort. Thank you to his carers for doing all you could. RIP sweet Johnny ~ yoor struggles are over now.
Neutering is the way forward ~ it's the only way that every kitten can be a wanted kitten.

  4. We are very sad that little Johnny Boo has gone to the Bridge. At least he had a few months of knowing love and being well fed. We send our comforting purrs to you and to his mum.

  5. We're all so sorry to read that Boo had to be helped to The Bridge. It's very sad that he didn't get to enjoy longer being loved and cared for. But at least he did have that time, because of your efforts and his new Mum's. Thank you for making the world of difference to a very sweet cat who had fallen on such hard times.

    Fly free little Boo

    Rumbly purrs and love

  6. I am so sorry to hear about Boo. At least he had a short time inside with someone who cared about him.

  7. We are very sad that Johnny Boo had to go to the bridge but so thankful that you helped him and he had a home for the little time he had left on this earth.

  8. We are really sad to read this, but also moved by your passion. Äiti used to do work for shelters in the UK - now in Finland the situation is in different as there are no feral communities but she remembers only too well the pain and suffering from poisons, people, not.neutering etc. Thank God there are people like you, and that Johnny Boo had so much love in his life.

  9. Hello, I don't think we have met before but I saw on the CB that Johnny Boo went to the bridge. I am so very sorry this happened especially when it seems he just recently got to his wonderful forever home! My condolences to everyone who loved beautiful Johnny Boo.

  10. We didn't know Johnny Boo, but we are sorry to hear that he has gone to the Bridge. We send comforting purrs to his mom and everybuddy else who is missing him...

  11. We're so very sorry to hear that Boo has gone to the Bridge. You're right - he did have a loving home for his last few months and that's a very good thing.

Sending purrs to you and his family during this very sad time,
    Charlemagne and Tamar

  12. We're so sorry Johnny Boo had to be helped to the bridge after such a rough life. We're glad his last months were spent in a loving home. Purrs and tail wags.

  13. We are so sorry to hear of poor little Johnny Boo. We hope his journey was quick and he is now running at The Bridge with all of his new furriends.

    Gentle Hugs and Purrs~

  14. Hmmm, we left a comment yesterday and it's gone. Wish Blogger would stop eating them.

We are sorry about Johnny Boo having to be helped to the bridge. But we're glad he had a few months in a loving home. Purrs and tail wags.

  15. So sorry to hear of your loss. Poor little guy. Thank you for giving him a chance and your love.

  16. We are so very sorry that Boo had to go to the Bridge. We are praying and sending comforting purrs to his mom.

  17. We are so very sad to read this. Thank you for caring so much about him and for doing all that you could to help him. Now he is healthy, safe and roaming free over the bridge.

  18. We are so sorry that Johnny/Boo had to leave his loving new mom. She did the very best she could for him throughout his short stay with her. At least he was loved.

Run free at the Bridge, little guy ...

  19. We're very sorry for Boo's passing. Quality of life is everything, in our opinion. We're glad he knew love and care with you, at least for a short while.

Wishing you all universal Blessings and Peace.

  20. Thank you all for your kind words. I'm sure you all know it's hard to give up on a furry soul.

As the weather turns cold now, I'm so grateful that he isn't out there struggling.

Like ML and others said, neutering is the way to go. Every furry with a home is the dream I hold. I trust I will encounter Boo's gentle little soul again.

  21. (((hugs))) We are so sorry to hear about Boo leaving for the bridge. What a lucky kitty he was to be in your loving care.

  22. What a sweet looking kitty!I'm glad he found love with you. Heaven's a little brighter now!

  23. Thank you for all you did for Boo - he was loved and cared for during his last months.

  24. We are very soory to hear about Johnny Boo. Tragic, but at least he had a loving home for short while. Please accept our purrs and prayers.

  25. Just checking in. We hope Wendy and Johnny's Mom and furbuddies are all doing well.

  26. Hey, Wendy. Just checking in to see how you are doing. Purrrrrsss and headbuttss to you.

  27. Doing okay. I just don't have anything to post at this point. Haven't even been able to get over to visit the kitties this winter. It's been a rough one!

I may take this blog down since I can't seem to get at it!

Had a visit from one of the local kitties last night. She still wants me to feed her despite the fact that I haven't fed since last summer (under threat of the rental management). She looked perfectly plump, though, so I think she's doing fine. : )
